Service Overview

Joints are what hold paving together — when they fail, everything fails.

Most patio and driveway problems we see start at the joint. Get the joints right and the rest of the paving lasts decades. Get them wrong, and you'll be relaying inside three years.

Re-grouting (also called re-pointing or re-jointing) is the process of clearing out old, failed joint material and replacing it with fresh, correctly-specified product. Depending on the paving and the use, that means kiln-dried silica sand, a polymeric jointing compound, a brush-in resin compound, or a wet mortar mix.

We use the right product for the job — not the cheapest, not the fastest. Resin compounds suit patios that need a hard-set, weed-resistant finish. Sand suits driveways where flex and load are constant. Mortar suits older properties where the original aesthetic matters.

Every re-grouting job starts with a full joint clean to remove the old material, weeds, moss and debris. Without that step, the new product won't bond properly — which is the number one reason DIY re-jointing fails within a year.

  • Kiln-dried silica sand jointing
  • Polymeric jointing compounds
  • Brush-in resin (Geo-Fix, Romex, etc.)
  • Wet mortar pointing
  • Joint cleaning and weed removal
  • Compatible with all major paving types
What Happens If You Wait

Why failed joints cost more than failed paving.

Joints are small. The damage they cause when neglected isn't.

Pavers shift and sink

Without joint material, blocks rock under vehicle load. Edges chip, alignment goes, and the surface develops trip hazards.

Weeds take over

Empty joints are a perfect seedbed. Once weeds and moss establish, the joint is permanently compromised and refilling becomes much harder.

Water gets underneath

Joints shed rainwater across the surface. When they fail, water pools, sub-base washes out, and you eventually need to relay sections at significant cost.

Our Process

A clear, methodical system — built around your time and your property.

STEP 01

Inspection

We assess the surface, age, material and condition on site or from your photos — and quote in writing.

STEP 02

Preparation

Plants, drains and fragile fixtures are covered. Loose debris is cleared before cleaning begins.

STEP 03

Treatment

The correct chemistry and pressure for the surface — biocides, detergents or pure cleaning where appropriate.

STEP 04

Verification

A controlled rinse, inspection in natural light, and a walk-around with you to check every metre.

STEP 05

Completion

Site left spotless. Aftercare advice and a clear written invoice.

Why It's Worth Doing Properly

The benefits you'll actually notice — and the ones that pay for themselves.

Stops paving movement

Properly filled joints lock blocks together so they share load. Movement stops, alignment holds, edges stop chipping.

No more weeds in the gaps

Resin compounds in particular create a sealed, weed-resistant joint that lasts years without intervention.

Cheaper than relaying

Re-grouting costs a fraction of relaying. Done in time, it removes the need to ever relay.

Improves drainage

Sound joints shed water properly across the surface and into drainage — preventing pooling and sub-base damage.

Looks instantly better

Fresh, clean joints sharpen the appearance of the whole paving. The transformation is often dramatic.

Right product for the job

We never default to the cheapest material. Sand, resin or mortar — chosen for the surface, the use and the look you want.

The Detail

Which jointing material we use, and when.

There's no universal best jointing product. The right choice depends on the paving material, the joint width, the loading and how much maintenance you're willing to do.

Kiln-dried silica sand

Standard for block paving driveways. Fine, dry silica brushed into joints and consolidated by vibration or repeated brushing. Cheap, easy to top up, and the only sand that flows properly into narrow paver joints. Needs occasional topping-up every couple of years.

Polymeric jointing sand

A hybrid product — sand pre-mixed with a polymer binder that activates when wetted. Sets firm but still flexible. Excellent for tight-jointed patios and driveways where weed-resistance matters. Slightly more expensive than plain sand and one-shot to install correctly.

Brush-in resin compounds

Products like GftK VDW 800, Romex Easy and Geo-Fix. Two-part resin systems brushed into wider joints (8mm+) and cleaned off the paving. Sets rock-hard, fully weed-resistant, very low maintenance. Ideal for patios, sandstone joints and high-end finishes. Cost more, last longer.

Wet mortar pointing

Traditional sand-cement mortar, pressed into joints by hand. Used on natural stone setts, period properties and conservation work where the period aesthetic matters. Slow, skilled work — but no other product gives the same look.
